How I Went from Jack-of-All-Trades to Focused Video Creative

One of the hardest parts of running a small business—especially in the early years—is figuring out what you're actually good at. Not just what you can do (because let’s be honest, most small business owners can do a bit of everything out of necessity), but what lights you up and gets results for your clients.

For a long time, I wore every marketing hat possible. I designed websites, managed social media accounts, wrote email newsletters, consulted on strategy—you name it. And I was decent at all of it. But I always had this nagging feeling underneath: Am I actually good enough? Do I really know what I’m doing? Yep, good old imposter syndrome.

And when I decided to rebrand Feels Good Creative—to focus only on video—I’ll be honest: that imposter syndrome came roaring back. Questions like:

  • Am I skilled enough?

  • Do I know enough?

  • What if I’m not cut out for this?

But here’s what changed: I stopped trying to be good at everything, and I started focusing on what I know I do well.

I’m not great at jumping on video trends. I don’t make TikToks with viral audio or fast-paced edits. And I’m learning to be okay with that. Because what I am great at is helping small business owners feel comfortable on camera—especially the ones who hate the idea of being in front of one.

I’m great at:

  • Making people feel supported, not judged

  • Helping you show up as yourself, not some overly polished version of who you think you need to be

  • Creating videos that connect you to your clients in a real, human way

When I leaned into those strengths, everything started to click. I realized that I don’t need to be a jack-of-all-trades. I just need to be excellent at the thing I care most about: helping people show up on video in a way that feels true to them.

If you’ve ever felt like you need to do it all, or be amazing at everything to be taken seriously—please hear this: you don’t. You just need to find your thing. The part of your work that makes you feel proud, grounded, and confident. And then, do more of that.

That’s what I’m doing now with Feels Good Creative. And it feels really good.
